FULFILMENT

Prepare an FBA shipment without guessing

A shipment planning checklist covering packaged measurements, preparation responsibility, labels and the destination assigned in Seller Central.

A product is not ready for an FBA shipment just because it fits in a carton. The item must be eligible for your account and marketplace, correctly identified and prepared for the shipment you create. Work through those decisions before asking a supplier to dispatch inventory.

Measure the item you will actually send

Record the weight and dimensions of one finished, packaged unit. Product measurements taken before protective packaging can underestimate the shipment and fulfilment cost. Also record carton dimensions, gross carton weight, the count in each carton and the total count. Check that these numbers agree across the quote, packing list and shipment plan.

For a breakable item, inspect the protective packaging with a sample. For fabric goods, check that the package protects the item from dust and moisture without obscuring the required label. The appropriate treatment depends on the product and current Amazon requirements; do not copy a checklist for an unrelated item.

Assign each preparation task to a named party

  • Who checks quantity and condition before dispatch?
  • Who applies the identifier selected for the listing?
  • Who supplies any required protective packaging or warning labels?
  • Who checks that old or conflicting scannable labels are handled correctly?
  • Who prepares the cartons and prints the shipment-specific box labels?
  • Who provides photographs and the final packing list before pickup?

One order, two kinds of labels

A trial contains 30 identical units packed in three cartons of 10. The unit identification follows the listing and barcode choice; the carton shipment labels come from the specific shipment workflow. Sending a generic product label to the supplier does not provide the carton labels needed for that shipment. This example is a planning illustration, not a shipment instruction for your account.

Create the plan before selecting the final destination

The receiving destination comes from the shipment workflow in Seller Central. “Send to an Amazon warehouse in the USA” is not a complete delivery address or shipping plan. Confirm the allocated destination, carrier arrangement and any split or placement charges before finalising transport. A freight quote to a preparation centre and a quote to an Amazon receiving destination may cover different services.

Review the dispatch evidence

Request pictures showing the packaged unit, readable labels and closed cartons. Check the unit count against the packing list. Keep the carrier tracking reference, supplier invoice, preparation records and shipment identifier together. A clear evidence trail makes it easier to investigate a shortage or preparation issue later.

Amazon’s requirements and services change. Open the requirements for the actual listing and shipment rather than assuming a previously available preparation service is still offered. If you cannot identify who will complete a required task, stop the dispatch until responsibility and cost are clear.
